Marc Márquez is not the same any more. After the latest injury, even Ducati is starting to worry: can the champion really get back to the top?

The crash that changed the season

It was supposed to be the season of confirmation after the world title won in 2025, but instead Marc Márquez’s 2026 is turning into a test both unexpected and complex. The nine-time world champion, now on the factory Ducati, is dealing with an uncomfortable reality: his body has not yet returned to being the dominant one.

It all began last October, at the Indonesian GP. The crash caused by contact with Marco Bezzecchi led to a fracture in his right shoulder and a ligament injury, forcing Márquez to end the season early despite the title already in the bag.

A very hard blow, not so much for the sporting result – already secured – but for the long-term consequences.

Márquez’s physical condition today

Months later, the situation remains delicate. Márquez himself admitted with great clarity:

“I don’t feel comfortable on the bike… I just ride, but I can’t make the difference”

The main problem is the loss of strength and fluidity in his right arm, which affects him especially in the early stages of the race. A heavy limitation for a rider who has always built his successes on aggression in the first laps.

His feeling with the Ducati Desmosedici GP26 is also suffering: Márquez is struggling to maintain a natural position and cannot fully exploit the bike’s potential.

Ducati between concern and confidence

At Ducati, the atmosphere has changed compared with the optimism of preseason. Team manager Davide Tardozzi openly acknowledged that the rider is not yet 100% and that his condition is an unknown.

The team’s line is clear:

total confidence in Márquez’s talent

awareness of a recovery that is still incomplete

the need for a gradual path

According to Ducati, the real aim is not just to get back into shape, but to allow the rider to adapt to a new physical condition.

Statements from the paddock

What is causing the most concern is the opinion of someone who knows Márquez well. Andrea Dovizioso, his historic rival, has sent a clear signal:

“His situation is much more serious than it seems… he is a long way from his 100%”

According to the Italian, the problem with the arm may not be fully solvable, or in any case destined to limit the Spaniard’s performance permanently.

An analysis that is also reflected in the results on track.

The 2026 MotoGP world championship changes scenario

The Ducati leader’s difficulties are already affecting the championship. Aprilia and Marco Bezzecchi have started the season with great competitiveness, while the Borgo Panigale manufacturer is no longer dominating as it did in 2025.

Márquez now finds himself chasing, in a season that could prove much more balanced than expected.

Márquez’s future: adaptation or decline?

Márquez’s trajectory is entering a new phase. After years of crashes, operations and incredible comebacks, the Spanish champion is facing the hardest challenge: accepting his limits and reinventing himself.

It is no longer just a question of speed or talent, but of adaptation. As he himself said:

“I have to find my new limit.”

And that is exactly where his future will be decided. Because if there is one constant in Márquez’s career, it is his ability to rewrite the rules. Even when the body seems to be saying that is enough.
