Marc Márquez and Ducati will continue their journey together for at least two more seasons. The Italian manufacturer has officially announced a contract extension that will keep the Spanish superstar with the Ducati Lenovo Team until the end of the 2028 MotoGP season.
The agreement is one of the biggest stories of the current championship and sends a strong message to the rest of the paddock. Ducati has decided to build its future around the reigning world champion, ensuring continuity ahead of the major technical regulation changes that will reshape MotoGP from 2027.
After reviving his career aboard a Ducati with Gresini Racing before earning promotion to the factory team, Márquez will remain the cornerstone of Borgo Panigale’s long-term project as the championship enters a new technological era.
Following the official announcement, Márquez expressed his satisfaction with the new agreement, explaining that extending his relationship with Ducati was a natural decision after everything the two sides have achieved together.
The Spaniard highlighted how the atmosphere within the team allowed him to rediscover his confidence and enjoy racing at the highest level once again. He praised the engineers and technicians for creating the ideal environment to unlock his full potential.
Márquez also emphasized that Ducati represents the perfect project to continue fighting for world titles, especially with the introduction of the new 850cc regulations in 2027. According to the nine-time world champion, both parties share the same ambition and determination to remain at the top of MotoGP.
The decision to extend Márquez’s contract until 2028 is about far more than retaining one of the fastest riders on the grid.
MotoGP will enter a completely new chapter in 2027 with smaller engines, revised aerodynamics and significant technical changes that are expected to reset the competitive order. In such a scenario, having one of the most experienced and successful riders in the sport becomes a strategic advantage.
Throughout his career, Márquez has repeatedly demonstrated an exceptional ability to adapt to new motorcycles and regulations while playing a key role in bike development. Ducati believes his technical feedback and leadership will be essential as the factory prepares for the next generation of MotoGP machinery.
Behind the contract extension is also the long-term vision of Ducati Corse General Manager Gigi Dall’Igna.
Over the past few years, Ducati has established itself as the benchmark manufacturer in MotoGP by combining technical innovation with stability. Securing Márquez until 2028 allows the Italian factory to focus entirely on developing its future prototype without uncertainty surrounding its lead rider.
The relationship between Márquez and Ducati has grown stronger race after race, evolving into one of the most successful partnerships in modern MotoGP.
The announcement is also expected to trigger the next phase of the rider market.
With Ducati’s factory seat now secured for the coming years, several manufacturers and riders can begin finalizing their own plans. Many negotiations had effectively been waiting for Márquez’s decision before moving forward.
As a result, the transfer market is likely to accelerate over the coming months, with multiple teams preparing for the beginning of MotoGP’s new technical era.
When Marc Márquez decided to leave Honda after more than a decade of success, many considered it one of the biggest risks of his career. Today, that decision has become one of the most successful rider moves in recent MotoGP history.
Ducati found in the Spaniard a leader capable of elevating an already dominant project, while Márquez rediscovered the motorcycle that allowed him to compete consistently for victories and championships once again.
The new agreement until 2028 confirms the commitment of both sides to continue writing MotoGP history together.
As the championship prepares for its biggest technical transformation in years, one thing is already certain: Marc Márquez will remain at the heart of Ducati’s ambitions, and once again, he will be the rider everyone else has to beat.
