The Japanese rider claimed his first premier class win ahead of team-mate Raúl Fernández. Jorge Martín climbed onto the podium and became the new World Championship leader after Marco Bezzecchi's crash.

The 2026 Dutch Grand Prix will go down in MotoGP and Japanese motorcycling history. At the legendary TT Circuit in Assen, Ai Ogura took his first victory in the premier class, with an impeccable race that also gave the Trackhouse MotoGP Team an unforgettable day thanks to the one-two completed by Raúl Fernández.

For the Japanese rider, this is a success destined to go down in the annals: no rider from Japan had won a premier class race since 2004, when Makoto Tamada triumphed at Motegi. After twenty-two years, Japan is therefore back on the top step of the podium, opening a new chapter in its history in the World Championship.

A perfect race built with intelligence

Ogura's run was not only fast, but extremely mature. After a start inside the leading positions, the Trackhouse rider managed his tyres and pace without making mistakes, remaining constantly in the fight for victory.

In the closing stages he launched the decisive attack on team-mate Raúl Fernández, who had led for much of the race after also taking victory in Saturday's Sprint. The decisive overtake handed the American team its first one-two in MotoGP history, confirming the extraordinary form of the outfit led by Davide Brivio.

Trackhouse surprises everyone and becomes a World Championship protagonist

If until a few weeks ago Trackhouse Racing had been one of the pleasant surprises of the championship, Assen brought the definitive confirmation.

The Aprilia satellite team dominated the Dutch weekend, first taking the one-two in the Sprint Race and then repeating the result in Sunday's main race.

The project built around Ai Ogura and Raúl Fernández shows impressive progress both technically and in race management. The Aprilia RS-GP proved competitive in every condition, allowing the two riders to set a pace Ducati was unable to counter.

Jorge Martín limits the damage and takes the championship lead

If Ai Ogura is the moral winner of the day, the biggest smile in the standings belongs to Jorge Martín.

The Spaniard, who started from pole position, finished third and collected crucial points after the crash of brand-mate Marco Bezzecchi, who went down as early as the second lap while running at the front.

Thanks to this result Martín returns as leader of the MotoGP World Championship with a seven-point lead over Bezzecchi, reopening the title fight completely as the season enters its middle phase.

A difficult weekend for Ducati

Assen, instead, turned into one of the most difficult weekends of the season for Ducati.

Marc Márquez was never able to find the ideal feeling with the Desmosedici, finishing only seventh after a penalty for track limits.

Francesco Bagnaia was even more unlucky, forced to retire after technical problems that completely compromised his race. Fabio Di Giannantonio was instead the best of the Ducati riders with fourth place after recovering despite a long lap penalty.

The significance of Ogura's victory

Ai Ogura's victory represents much more than a simple personal success.

The 2024 Moto2 world champion continues a rapid rise, confirming himself as one of the most interesting talents of the new generation. After the first podium secured this season, the Japanese rider now also claims his first victory in the premier class, relaunching the ambitions of the Aprilia project and bringing Japan back to the top of world motorcycling.
