Ferrari presents the Luce: the first electric car in its history

For Ferrari, this is one of those moments destined to be remembered for years. At Maranello, the new Ferrari Luce was unveiled, the first fully electric model made by Ferrari. A project that marks an epochal turning point for the Italian brand, which is called on to deal with a technological transformation that is changing the entire global automotive industry.

The Luce, however, is not born as a simple response to the market’s new needs. Ferrari wanted to build a car capable of interpreting electrification according to its own philosophy, placing performance, driving emotion and technological research at the centre. A complex challenge, above all for a manufacturer that has built much of its legend on the sound of combustion engines and on the sensory experience that accompanies every model that has left Maranello.

The result is a car that breaks with the past in many respects, but that at the same time seeks to preserve the elements that have made Ferrari one of the most desirable brands in the world.

Ferrari Luce: record numbers for the Cavallino’s first electric supercar

Over 1,000 horsepower and Formula 1 acceleration

The technical data sheet of the Ferrari Luce immediately makes clear what approach the engineers in Maranello have taken. The new electric car has a power output of more than 1,000 horsepower, developed through a four-electric-motor configuration that allows an extremely sophisticated management of traction and torque distribution.

The performance is what one would expect from a new-generation Ferrari. The 0 to 100 km/h run is completed in around 2.5 seconds, while the top speed comfortably exceeds 300 km/h. Numbers that place the Luce among the most capable electric cars ever unveiled on the market.

Range is also one of the most significant aspects of the project. Thanks to a large-capacity battery, Ferrari claims a range of more than 500 kilometres, a figure that allows the Luce to be used not only as a weekend supercar, but also as a grand tourer suited to long journeys.

A Ferrari designed to be driven every day

If the mechanics look to the future, the overall project set-up introduces concepts that the brand has barely explored until now.

The Ferrari Luce is in fact the first car from the company to offer a five-seat configuration, accompanied by a cabin that is clearly more spacious than traditional sports berlinettas. The boot also reaches unprecedented dimensions for a Ferrari, confirming the desire to create a model capable of combining exclusivity and practicality.

The declared aim is to broaden the Ferrari experience without distorting it, offering a car that can accompany the owner in everyday life while maintaining the level of performance typical of the brand.

Ferrari Luce design: technology and tradition meet

The interior goes against the market trend

One of the most surprising aspects to emerge during the presentation concerns the cockpit.

In recent years much of the automotive industry has focused on increasingly advanced digitalisation, with large screens and the gradual elimination of traditional controls. Ferrari chose a different path.

On the Luce, numerous physical controls return to the fore, a solution designed to maintain direct contact between driver and car. The philosophy developed by the designers is to allow the driver to manage the main functions without taking their eyes off the road, preserving that sense of control that is one of the distinctive features of modern Ferraris.

The interior combines premium materials, artisanal workmanship and state-of-the-art technologies, creating a balance between innovation and tradition that appears consistent with the path taken by Maranello.

Jony Ive’s contribution to the Luce project

Behind the stylistic identity of the new Ferrari there is also the contribution of Jony Ive and the LoveFrom creative team. The influence of the former Apple designer emerges above all in the search for formal simplicity, attention to detail and the desire to eliminate every superfluous element.

The result is a car with unusual proportions by Ferrari standards, with a silhouette that prioritises space, comfort and aerodynamic efficiency without giving up the visual impact that has always characterised the Cavallino’s models.

Ferrari’s challenge: winning over new customers without losing the purists

A model set to divide fans

Every revolution inevitably brings enthusiasm and scepticism with it. The Ferrari Luce is no exception.

Among fans there is great curiosity to understand how the brand will manage to transfer into the electric world those emotions that for decades have been associated with V8 and V12 power units. Precisely for this reason the engineers in Maranello have worked intensively on the driving dynamics, developing systems dedicated to torque management, regenerative braking and the car’s behaviour in every phase of sporty driving.

The aim is not to artificially replicate the past, but to create a new Ferrari experience capable of keeping the driver fully engaged.

Ferrari’s strategy for the future

The Luce represents only the first step in a broader strategy. Ferrari has already made clear that combustion engines will continue to play a central role in the range, alongside hybrid and electric technologies.

In this context, the new electric car takes on fundamental importance. Its job will not only be to generate sales, but above all to show that the Cavallino can tackle the energy transition without giving up its identity.

Ferrari Luce price and release date

The first deliveries of the Ferrari Luce are scheduled between the end of 2026 and the beginning of 2027. The list price exceeds 550,000 euro, a figure that places it in the most exclusive bracket of the high-performance electric car market.

More than a simple new model, the Luce represents a historic step for Ferrari. It is the car that officially ushers in the electric era for Maranello and that will have to prove how innovation and tradition can coexist under the same badge.

For the Cavallino, it is an ambitious gamble. For the world of sports cars, however, it is the beginning of a chapter destined to influence the future of the entire sector.
