The new BMW M3 has officially entered the most advanced stage of development. The latest spy shots published in fact show a prototype that is still camouflaged, but already very close to the production version.

According to reports, BMW’s future sports car will be 100% electric as well and will arrive around 2027, marking an epochal turning point for one of the brand’s most iconic models.

Electric BMW M3: what we know from the spy shots

The latest images show the car during road tests in Germany, confirming that development is now at an advanced stage.

A design distinct from the current range

The photos reveal some key elements:

Wider wheel arches and a muscular stance

New front end, different from the current 3 Series

More advanced aerodynamic details

Lines inspired by the future Neue Klasse range

The look will therefore be more modern and less tied to the current styling cues, while still retaining the typical proportions of an M3.

Neue Klasse platform and electric development

The new electric M3 will be based on the Neue Klasse platform, destined to become the benchmark for all future electric BMWs.

This architecture will bring:

New generation of batteries

Greater efficiency and range

Completely revised electronic architecture

The project is therefore set to be a native EV, not an adaptation of an internal-combustion model.

Engine and performance: between hypotheses and plausible data

On the technical side, the information is still partial and largely unofficial.

Four-motor configuration

Several sources point to an advanced solution with:

Four electric motors (one per wheel)

All-wheel drive with independent torque management

This architecture will allow an extremely precise distribution of power and an evolved driving dynamic.

Power: figures still to be confirmed

Some estimates speak of around 700 hp

Other, more extreme hypotheses go up to over 1,000 hp, but without official confirmation

In any case, these are still rumours, not definitive data released by BMW.

Technology: the role of software will be central

The new electric M3 will lean heavily on software to ensure performance and driving engagement.

Advanced torque vectoring

The system will be able to:

Manage torque on each individual wheel

Improve traction, stability and agility

Adapt in real time to driving conditions

New driving experience

According to reports, BMW will introduce:

Dedicated driving modes

Shift simulations

An artificial sound designed to maintain engagement

When the electric BMW M3 arrives

The timing is now fairly clear:

Debut and market launch

Expected reveal: end of 2026

Market arrival: 2027

BMW M3: electric but not only

One important aspect concerns the future of the range.

According to several sources, the M3 will continue to exist with an internal-combustion engine too, at least for a transition period.

This means BMW could offer:

An electric M3 (probably iM3)

An evolved traditional M3

A new era for the BMW M3

The electric BMW M3 represents one of the most radical changes in the model’s history.

It is not just a question of going electric, but of completely redefining:

performance

driving dynamics

driving experience

The spy shots confirm that the project is now well advanced. However, many details still need to be clarified.

To get definitive figures and official specifications, we will have to wait for the presentation in the coming months.
