More than 1,300 horsepower, extreme technology and record-breaking performance: the Yangwang U9 is the statement with which BYD wants to change the hypercar market

China is accelerating, and this time it is doing so with no intention of staying behind the big European brands. The Yangwang U9, the new electric hypercar from BYD, is much more than a simple high-performance supercar: it is a concentration of technology designed to show that the future of sports cars could increasingly speak Chinese.

In recent months, the U9 has gone viral all over the world thanks to videos posted on social media, where the car appears capable of jumping, “dancing” and even continuing to run in extreme conditions. But behind the spectacular effect there is an extremely serious project, born to compete with names such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren and Rimac.

BYD’s strategy is clear: use the Yangwang U9 as a global technology showcase to demonstrate the progress achieved by the Chinese industry in the high-performance electric sector.

Hypercar performance: brutal acceleration and speed beyond 300 km/h

Four independent electric motors and total torque control

The Yangwang U9 uses a platform developed entirely by BYD and relies on four independent electric motors, one per wheel. The result is a total output of more than 1,300 horsepower, with 0 to 100 km/h in about 2.3 seconds.

Numbers that immediately place it in the world elite of electric hypercars.

What has impressed the engineers and drivers who have had the chance to try it is not just the outright speed, but above all the electronic management of dynamics. Each wheel is controlled individually in real time, allowing the car to distribute torque with almost surgical precision.

This system allows the U9 to maintain stability and traction even in the most critical conditions, significantly reducing grip losses and improving cornering behaviour at high speeds.

The DiSus-X system is the real revolution of the Yangwang U9

The hypercar that jumps, dances and keeps going even in an emergency

The technological heart of the Yangwang U9 is the DiSus-X system, the sophisticated active suspension platform developed in-house by BYD.

It is precisely this technology that has turned the car into a global phenomenon. Thanks to independent suspension control, the U9 can modify the height and setup of each individual wheel in real time, managing roll, pitch and load transfer with impressive speed.

In the demonstration videos released online, the Chinese hypercar appears capable of performing small vertical jumps, moving sideways and continuing to run even with one wheel compromised. Solutions that seem to have come out of a futuristic film but which, according to BYD, are born with a very precise objective: to increase safety, stability and control at the highest speeds.

The idea behind the project is very different from the traditional European philosophy, still strongly tied to pure mechanics. The Yangwang U9 instead takes the concept of a software-managed automobile to the extreme.

The tests in Germany impress drivers and insiders

Marc Basseng: “High-speed stability is incredible”

Further strengthening the international credibility of the Yangwang U9 were the recent tests carried out in Germany on the ATP track in Papenburg, where BYD worked on developing the most extreme versions of the car.

At the wheel was Marc Basseng, a professional driver known for several speed records and for his long experience in the development of very high-performance cars.

After the tests, Basseng explained that he had been struck above all by the car’s stability above 470 km/h, stressing how the electronic platform manages to keep the car extremely composed even in the most delicate phases.

According to the German driver, the level reached by Chinese technology in the electric hypercar sector is advancing faster than many European manufacturers expected.

Words that have further fuelled the debate in the automotive world, especially considering that they come from a professional used to working with record-breaking cars.

The Track Edition aims to rewrite the limits of electric hypercars

More than 3,000 horsepower for the most extreme version

BYD would already be working on an even more radical version of the Yangwang U9, developed to achieve never-before-seen performance in the world of electric cars.

The Track Edition uses 1,200-volt technology and power above 3,000 horsepower, numbers that turn it into one of the most extreme cars ever designed.

During high-speed tests, the hypercar would have exceeded 470 km/h, entering territory normally reserved for world record cars.

To achieve these goals, BYD engineers have worked on advanced aerodynamics, dedicated cooling systems and tyres developed specifically to withstand exceptional loads and speeds.

The Yangwang U9 is therefore not just built to amaze, but also to become a true technological laboratory destined to influence the Chinese group’s future sports models.

Aggressive design and global soul: the European influence is clear

Wolfgang Egger signs the style of the Chinese hypercar

The design also tells the story of the Yangwang U9’s international ambitions. The styling project was overseen by Wolfgang Egger, a German designer with experience at Alfa Romeo, Audi and Lamborghini.

The low and wide proportions, the very thin headlights and the taut lines clearly recall the visual language of European hypercars, while maintaining a strong personal identity.

The cockpit, meanwhile, focuses on technology and minimalism, with a racing setup dominated by digital displays, technical materials and strong software integration.

BYD does not simply want to imitate Western supercars: the Yangwang U9 is born to create a new benchmark in the high-performance electric segment.

Yangwang U9, the sign that the supercar market is truly changing

China enters the territory dominated by Ferrari, Lamborghini and Bugatti

For years the supercar world has been dominated by Europe thanks to iconic internal combustion engines, sporting tradition and historical heritage. Today, however, the scenario is changing rapidly.

The Yangwang U9 represents one of the strongest signs of this transformation. China is no longer aiming only at mass production, but wants to conquer the most exclusive and technologically advanced segment of the automotive market as well.

With a combination of advanced electronics, sophisticated software and rapid development, BYD is showing that it can compete at the very highest level.

The feeling, looking at the Yangwang U9, is that the future of hypercars could be very different from what was imagined until a few years ago. And this time Ferrari, Lamborghini and the other historic brands know they have a competitor in front of them that can no longer be underestimated.
