Rally Islas Canarias already has an outright protagonist after the first eight special stages: Sébastien Ogier. The French master ended Friday in the lead with a solid, fast and above all impeccable performance in management, once again confirming his status as the absolute benchmark in the World Championship Rally.

On the technical, high-grip asphalt of the Spanish archipelago, Ogier built his lead intelligently, alternating committed attacks with phases of control. His Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 proved perfectly balanced, allowing him to make the difference in the more twisty sections and in the changes of pace where precision and confidence make the real selection.

Ogier between speed and control: “I’m starting to enjoy it”

The Frenchman’s day was marked by a consistent pace and above-average adaptability. After taking the lead in the morning’s early stages, Ogier never gave his rivals any space, gradually increasing his advantage.

At the end of the day, the Toyota driver showed satisfaction but also great lucidity: he stressed how the feeling with the car is growing stage after stage, highlighting that enjoying himself behind the wheel is always a positive sign when fighting for victory.

Toyota makes the difference: technical and strategic dominance

If Ogier is the face of the lead, Toyota is the true collective protagonist of this first part of the rally. The Japanese manufacturer has imposed a clear dominance, placing several cars in the top positions and showing evident technical superiority over the competition.

The GR Yaris Rally1 has found a perfect balance between grip, stability and traction, proving extremely effective on an asphalt that demands absolute precision. It is not just a matter of pure speed, but of confidence: the Toyota drivers are able to make full use of the ideal line, maintaining a high pace without compromising safety.

The pursuers: Solberg tries to resist, Evans looks for answers

Behind Ogier, Oliver Solberg confirms himself as the closest pursuer, capable of inserting himself into the fight with determination and talent. The young Swede has shown flashes of great speed, even managing to put pressure on the leader in some stages, but there is still a gap to close in terms of consistency.

A more difficult day for Elfyn Evans, who appeared less incisive than expected. The Welshman admitted he was not completely satisfied with the feeling from the car and that he needs to find quick solutions to stay in touch with the fight for the podium.

Hyundai struggling: confidence on the front end is lacking

On the Hyundai side, the day was decidedly more complicated. The i20 N Rally1 did not show the same effectiveness as the Toyota rival, especially in the more technical sections where confidence on the front end becomes decisive.

The Korean team’s drivers highlighted difficulties in following the ideal lines, with the car’s balance not yet optimal. This led to a significant loss of time, making it difficult to stay in touch with the leaders.

Analysis: the rally is decided by Toyota's pace

After SS8, the picture is clear: Rally Islas Canarias is in the hands of Ogier and Toyota. However, the race is still long and there are plenty of traps, especially on a route that can quickly change conditions and grip.

Saturday will be decisive in understanding whether anyone will manage to reopen the battle or whether Toyota’s dominance will continue unchallenged. For now, though, the message is loud and clear: to win in the Canaries you have to beat Sébastien Ogier, and at the moment that seems anything but easy.DEVELOPER MODE
