The suspension works at the limit, the tyres are under constant stress and the high summer temperatures make race management even more difficult. It is precisely this mix that makes the Acropolis a competition in which experience, strategy and reliability often prevail over pure pace on the clock.
Even in 2026 the organisers have confirmed a route rich in historic stages, alternating very fast sections with others that are extremely technical, where every mistake can compromise the entire weekend.
New route and four days of racing
The 2026 edition introduces some organisational changes while keeping the event's charm intact. The headquarters will be based in Loutraki, while the special stages will unfold across Attica, the Peloponnese and Central Greece.
The event will begin on Thursday with the shakedown and the opening show stage, before getting into full swing on Friday with the first real battles against the clock.
Saturday will probably be the decisive day, thanks to the longest and most selective stages of the entire rally, while on Sunday the programme will culminate with the traditional Power Stage, which will award valuable points to the top five crews as well.
Toyota arrive as favourites but the opposition is ready to pounce
Toyota Gazoo Racing continues to be the benchmark for the championship. The GR Yaris Rally1 has shown an excellent balance between speed and reliability throughout the season, characteristics that are fundamental on a demanding terrain such as Greece's.
The Japanese team arrives at the Acropolis aware that it can fight for victory, but also with the utmost respect for a race that over the years has often upset the form book.
The Toyota drivers have underlined how the Acropolis is one of the most demanding competitions on the entire calendar. Car preparation and the ability to preserve tyres and mechanical components will be crucial aspects in getting to the finish without issues.
The declared aim is to maintain the lead in the standings, avoiding unnecessary risks in the opening phases of the race.
Hyundai are seeking redemption on the Greek roads
Hyundai Motorsport arrives in Greece determined to close the gap to the top of the championship.
The Korean team knows it can count on a Hyundai i20 N Rally1 that is particularly competitive on gravel and considers the Acropolis one of the best opportunities of the season to recover important points.
There is confidence within the team. The drivers have highlighted how the work carried out in testing has made it possible to improve the car's behaviour on uneven surfaces, while recognising that the Acropolis Rally remains a race in which caution can make the difference just as much as speed.
The aim will be to remain constantly in the leading positions without compromising the race in the early stages.
M-Sport is banking on the reliability of the Puma Rally1
M-Sport Ford is also looking at the Greek round with interest.
The Puma Rally1 has shown that it can be competitive especially when the conditions become particularly selective. In a rally where many crews can run into punctures or mechanical problems, consistency can turn into a decisive weapon.
The British team aims to take every opportunity to join the fight for the podium, aware that a mistake-free race could allow it to achieve one of its best results of the season.
The championship enters the decisive phase
The Acropolis Rally represents much more than a simple round of the championship.
As the races go by, every point gains ever greater weight in the fight for the Drivers' and Constructors' titles. The standings are still open and the Greek rally could significantly change the balance of the World Championship.
Risk management will therefore become fundamental. Attacking from the very first stages could guarantee an important advantage, but it would also increase the possibility of suffering punctures or damage to the cars.
For this reason many crews will probably adopt a progressive approach, increasing the pace only in the decisive phases of the competition.
The crews to watch
Among the main contenders for success are the stars of the championship, but the Acropolis has often produced surprises.
The characteristics of the route can in fact also allow less-fancied drivers to join the fight for the podium if the favourites run into technical problems or make mistakes.
The weather variable could also play a decisive role. High temperatures and an extremely dry surface could make tyre management even more delicate throughout the weekend.
Acropolis Rally Greece 2026 prediction
Toyota are slightly favoured thanks to the balance shown by the GR Yaris Rally1 during the season, but Hyundai appear ready to take advantage of any opportunity to reopen the championship.
M-Sport could also join the fight for the podium if it manages to maintain a consistent pace while avoiding mechanical problems.
As tradition dictates, the Rally of the Gods promises once again to reward the crew capable of finding the best compromise between speed, management and reliability. In Greece, it is almost never the most spectacular driver who wins, but the one who manages to bring their car to the finish without making mistakes.
It is precisely this balance that makes the Acropolis Rally one of the most fascinating and unpredictable races in the entire World Rally Championship.
