McLaren chooses Grégoire Saucy as the fifth driver in the 2027 Hypercar line-up: for the Swiss driver comes promotion after testing, ELMS and LMGT3.
Ultimogiro Newsroom · 5 November 2026 · 1 min read

McLaren has chosen Grégoire Saucy as the fifth driver in its line-up for the Hypercar class debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2027. The Swiss driver thus returns to the World Endurance Championship after a season away and joins a group that already includes Mikkel Jensen, Laurens Vanthoor, Alex Lynn and Leonardo Fornaroli, with a sixth name still to be announced.
For Saucy, the promotion comes after a path built within the development programme of the Woking manufacturer. In 2021 he had dominated the Formula Regional European Championship with eight victories, while in 2024 and 2025 he raced in LMGT3 with the McLaren 720S Evo. In Qatar he finished second, less than half a second off the win, and on four other occasions he came close to the podium.
In 2026 the Swiss driver's work was split between the track and the development of the new MCL-HY. In May he took part in the shakedown at Varano de’ Melegari with Mikkel Jensen, attended almost all the tests in the programme and made the Hypercar's public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed together with Lando Norris. At the same time, with United Autosports, he won the LMP2 title in the European Le Mans Series thanks to two victories and three other podiums in six rounds.
«I’m over the moon for this opportunity», Saucy comments to Motorsport.com Italia. The driver from Jura explained that he had imagined a regular seat already when he joined the McLaren development programme.
«Grégoire's promotion represents exactly the goal for which McLaren's Development Programme was conceived: to identify exceptional talent, support its growth and create a concrete path towards a factory seat», James Barclay added to Motorsport.com Italia. McLaren will announce the sixth and final member of the Hypercar line-up next week.
