Honda HRC presents a completely new line-up for MX2 in 2027. Maxime Grau and Julius Mikula join the team, two 20-year-old riders who arrive at this pass with different backgrounds but with the same goal: to slot into the Japanese manufacturer's 250 project in next season's Motocross World Championship.
Grau emerged in the EMX, where he showed speed and collected four podiums in the EMX250. However, his progress was interrupted by a number of injuries, before moving to Maddii Racing at the start of this year. On board the Honda CRF250R he achieved solid results and finished the 2026 MX2 season in 11th place, convincing Honda HRC to back him for the revised programme.
Mikula, meanwhile, comes off a strong 2026. The Czech rider finished the championship in ninth place, with fourth overall in Trentino as his best result of the season. Also catching the eye were his starts and riding style, elements that pushed Honda HRC to bring him into the team for 2027. For him, however, the change will be total: he has never raced in his career with a Honda CRF250.
For Mikula, work will begin immediately, with the aim of being ready for the first GP on 27-28 February. The Czech rider will have to get used to the bike and a new technical environment, while Grau will be able to count on a full preparation after a season marked by ups and downs. Honda HRC is thus building a young pairing, but one that has already been through important experiences in the international categories.
On a personal level too, the two welcomed the team's choice with great satisfaction. Grau explained that he wants to make the most of this opportunity after the support received from Maddii Racing, while Mikula spoke about the honour of being part of Honda HRC and the need to work hard over the winter to be ready for 2027.
