Petrucci crashes at Assen: a difficult but fast Friday
ASSEN – The Friday of the Dutch round of the Superbike 2026 at Assen had Danilo Petrucci among its protagonists, for better and for worse. The Italian rider had an intense day, marked by two crashes but also by a pace among the most competitive in the entire field.
The first slide came in the morning session, at the final chicane, one of the most technical and tricky points of the TT Circuit. In the afternoon, however, Petrucci crashed again while improving his time: a loss of the front in a fast section, a sign of how hard he was pushing to the limit on his BMW.
No physical problems, but work to do on feeling
Despite the double crash, Petrucci’s condition gives no cause for concern. The rider got back up without consequences and was able to complete the work on track, a key factor in such a competitive weekend.
From a technical point of view, however, the day highlighted a clear situation: the speed is there, but the feeling with the bike is not yet completely stable. Petrucci showed excellent one-lap pace, still managing to finish among the best, just a few tenths off the front-runners.
Petrucci fast at Assen: encouraging signs for the race
In the context of the WorldSBK at Assen 2026, the most interesting fact remains the competitiveness shown by the rider from Terni. Despite the mistakes, Petrucci remained firmly in the leading positions, a sign of real potential heading into the races.
The TT Circuit Assen, with its fast corners and constant changes of direction, is one of the toughest tests on the calendar. Here more than anywhere else, the level of confidence between rider and bike emerges, and the two crashes show how Petrucci is still looking for the ideal limit.
Superbike Assen analysis: between risk and opportunity
Friday’s action gives a two-sided picture. On the one hand there is a competitive Petrucci, able to stay with the best and build interesting race pace. On the other hand, some question marks remain over stability and risk management, especially when attacking the clock.
It is a typical situation for someone pushing to find the best performance: the margin between performance and error shrinks dramatically, especially on a circuit like Assen.
Towards Race 1: Petrucci one to watch
Ahead of the weekend’s races of Superbike Assen, Petrucci presents himself as one of the riders to watch. If he can turn the speed he has shown into consistency, he can join the fight for the leading positions.
Much will depend on his ability to find greater stability in the crucial phases, avoiding mistakes that on such a technical circuit can compromise everything in just a few moments.
Friday at Assen, then, was not just a difficult day: above all, it was a sign. Petrucci is fast, but to achieve results he will need balance.
