Nicolò Bulega untouchable in Aragón: pole position and victory consolidate his world lead

The 2026 Superbike World Championship season continues to have one clear protagonist: Nicolò Bulega. At the MotorLand Aragón circuit, the Ducati rider produced another display of strength, taking a superb pole position and turning it just a few hours later into an authoritative victory in Race 1.

The Spanish weekend had opened with clear signs from the free practice sessions, but Superpole definitively confirmed the level reached by the championship leader. Bulega set an almost perfect lap, lowering the track benchmark and opening up big gaps over his main rivals.

A performance that confirmed how the pairing between the rider from Emilia and the Ducati Panigale V4 R is now the absolute benchmark of the category.

Ducati sets the pace: Lecuona tries, but Bulega makes the difference

Qualifying highlighted the superiority of the Borgo Panigale manufacturer. Behind Bulega came Iker Lecuona, the star of a very competitive session in front of his home crowd, while Alberto Surra completed a surprising Ducati one-two-three at the sharp end.

The Aragón layout, characterised by long straights and wide-radius corners, seems to bring out the best in the Panigale, capable of delivering top speed and stability in every sector of the track.

The gaps recorded in qualifying immediately made it clear that the favourite for Race 1 was once again Bulega, but the race still offered some interesting points.

Lecuona tries to keep up

At the start Iker Lecuona tried to put pressure on his brand-mate, using his knowledge of the circuit and the enthusiasm of the Spanish crowd. For a few laps the Spanish rider managed to stay in the slipstream of the world championship leader, suggesting a tight battle.

As the laps passed, however, Bulega began to build his advantage thanks to a simply unreachable pace. Lap after lap the margin grew until the race turned into another display of control and maturity.

Perfect management that testifies not only to the speed of the Italian rider, but also to his growth in tyre management and in the various phases of the race.

Sam Lowes completes the podium, Ducati monopolises the leading positions

Behind the leading pair, Sam Lowes stood out, delivering a solid race with no mistakes. The Briton managed to defend the podium from the attacks of the chasers, securing an important result for the rest of the season.

The final standings of Race 1 once again tell a familiar story in the 2026 championship: Ducati is the technical benchmark of the category and the other constructors are called upon to make a significant effort to close the gap.

BMW, Yamaha and Bimota showed flashes of competitiveness during the weekend, but none of the rivals managed to match the pace set by the Panigales in the decisive phases of the race.

Numbers of a true champion

With the win in Aragón, Bulega continues to compile impressive stats. His winning streak stretches further and strengthens a world lead that appears increasingly solid.

Beyond the numbers, what stands out most is the ease with which the Italian rider manages every situation. Whether it is qualifying, sprint races or long races, the number one in the championship always seems to have something extra compared with the competition.

The confidence built up over the course of the season is reflected in every outing on track, turning every weekend into a display of strength that puts the rivals under pressure even before the lights go out.

The competition looks for a response

If on one side Ducati can smile, on the other the rivals continue to work to halt a dominance that risks definitively shaping the course of the championship.

Lecuona remains the rider who, at least at this moment, seems to have the potential to get closest to Bulega. The Spaniard has shown encouraging signs and could represent a concrete threat in Sunday's races.

Superpole Race and Race 2: Bulega favoured, but the battle remains open

Sunday in Aragón promises spectacle. The Superpole Race and Race 2 will offer the chasers new opportunities to try to stop the championship leader's triumphant march.

Bulega will once again start as the man to beat, backed by a speed that so far nobody has managed to counter consistently. However, motorsport teaches that every race writes a different story and MotorLand Aragón could still spring surprises.

For now, however, the Spanish Saturday has confirmed one certainty that has accompanied the entire 2026 season: Nicolò Bulega and Ducati are the absolute benchmark of world Superbike.
