Back on the Nordschleife are the colours of the 1995 World Championship: an emotional tribute to the Kaiser with a McLaren 720S GT3 Evo inspired by the historic Benetton

There are liveries that go beyond motorsport. Colours capable of crossing generations, evoking memories and immediately bringing to mind an unrepeatable era of Formula 1. At the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, exactly this will happen: Michael Schumacher will symbolically return to the track thanks to Dörr Motorsport's McLaren 720S GT3 Evo, dressed in the historic colours of the Benetton B195 of 1995.

Deep blue, yellow inserts and details that recall one of the most iconic cars in the modern history of F1. It is impossible not to immediately think of the young Schumacher who, thirty years ago, claimed his second world title by dominating the season with Benetton and definitively establishing himself as the new king of Formula 1.

On the most extreme and legendary circuit in the world, the Nürburgring's Green Hell, the tribute takes on an even deeper meaning. Because Schumacher and the Nürburgring represent an indissoluble link for German motorsport. Here the crowd will not just see a GT3 in celebratory livery, but a piece of collective memory coming back to life among the ups and downs of the Nordschleife.

Dörr Motorsport turns nostalgia into a spectacle

The McLaren number 69 will be one of the big attractions of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring

Dörr Motorsport's idea is not designed solely to impress from an aesthetic point of view. Behind the project there is a clear desire to celebrate the sporting legacy left by Schumacher and rekindle the passion of a crowd that grew up during the golden years of German Formula 1.

The McLaren 720S GT3 Evo number 69 will be entrusted to a highly experienced crew made up of Timo Glock, Timo Scheider, Marvin Kirchhöfer and Ben Dörr. A mix of talent, endurance experience and strong German identity, perfect for supporting a project that aims straight at the heart of fans.

The choice of sponsors also deliberately recalls the past. Among the logos on the car stands out Bitburger, the historic brand that accompanied Schumacher during his title-winning adventure with Benetton. A detail that helps make the nod to the Nineties even more authentic.

The initiative will also have an important charitable aspect. The suits used by the drivers during the race weekend will subsequently be auctioned off and the proceeds will go to the Keep Fighting Foundation, the organisation created to carry forward the values and message of strength associated with the name of Michael Schumacher.

Timo Glock: “These colours give me goosebumps”

The former Formula 1 driver talks about the emotion of driving the McLaren tribute to Schumacher

Among the drivers involved in the project, Timo Glock is probably one of those who feels the emotional weight of the initiative most strongly. The former Toyota driver in Formula 1 has not hidden how much Schumacher influenced his generation.

Glock said he grew up watching Michael dominate in Formula 1 and considers this appearance at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring something special. According to the German driver, seeing those colours back on track again stirs genuine emotion and immediately brings to mind an extraordinary period for world motorsport.

The reference to the Benetton B195, in fact, is not just an aesthetic tribute. It is the symbol of an era in which Schumacher turned Formula 1 in Germany into a popular phenomenon, drawing millions of fans and inspiring an entire generation of young drivers.

Timo Scheider: “Schumacher changed everything for German motorsport”

The two-time DTM champion underlines the historic importance of the Kaiser

Timo Scheider also wanted to highlight the symbolic value of the Dörr Motorsport project. The two-time DTM champion described Schumacher as the most important figure in the modern history of German motorsport, underlining how his impact went far beyond sporting success.

According to Scheider, bringing the Benetton colours back on track means reminding the new generations what Schumacher represented for European and world motorsport. A legacy that continues today to influence drivers, teams and fans.

And that is precisely the most powerful aspect of the initiative: the Nürburgring McLaren does not simply want to celebrate the past, but to keep alive a story that still moves the international paddock.

24 Hours Nürburgring 2025, the tribute to Schumacher has already gone viral

Social media goes wild for the McLaren in Benetton B195 style

The first images of the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo immediately sparked enthusiasm on social media. Thousands of fans shared photos and comments celebrating the return of the historic Benetton colour combination to international tracks.

For many fans, this is one of the most successful tributes ever dedicated to Michael Schumacher in recent years. The car's design manages to modernise the lines of the historic B195 without losing the original charm of the car that dominated Formula 1 in 1995.

In a motorsport increasingly focused on the future, the 24 Hours of Nürburgring once again shows how memory and tradition can become an integral part of the spectacle. And seeing those colours tackle the Nordschleife again means, in the end, bringing Michael Schumacher back to the centre of the world automotive scene.
