Ferrari and Hamilton finally celebrate together in Barcelona
Formula 1 witnessed a historic afternoon at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as Lewis Hamilton secured his first Grand Prix victory as a Ferrari driver.
The seven-time world champion delivered a masterclass in race management, strategy and consistency to claim Ferrari’s most significant result of the season so far.
The Spanish Grand Prix also produced a dramatic twist in the championship battle after championship leader Kimi Antonelli suffered a late retirement, opening the door for his rivals to close the gap.
A perfect race for Hamilton
From the opening laps, Hamilton looked comfortable behind the wheel of the Ferrari SF-26. The Italian team executed an aggressive strategy that paid off during a crucial Virtual Safety Car period, allowing Hamilton to gain track position and control the race.
Once in front, the British driver managed the pace perfectly and never allowed his rivals a realistic chance to challenge for victory.
The win marks Hamilton’s 106th Formula 1 victory and his first since joining Ferrari, a milestone that many fans had been waiting to see.
Antonelli’s championship lead under pressure
Mercedes youngster Kimi Antonelli endured a frustrating afternoon. While he appeared set to score valuable points, a technical issue forced him into retirement during the closing stages of the race.
Although Antonelli remains at the top of the drivers’ standings, his advantage has been significantly reduced, bringing several contenders back into the championship fight.
Russell and Norris secure podium finishes
George Russell finished second after extracting the maximum performance from his Mercedes package, while Lando Norris continued McLaren’s impressive form with another podium result.
Max Verstappen was unable to challenge the leading trio and settled for fourth place after a difficult weekend.
Ferrari’s championship hopes are alive
Despite Charles Leclerc’s retirement, Ferrari leaves Spain with renewed optimism. Hamilton’s victory proves the SF-26 has the pace to compete consistently at the front and gives the Scuderia fresh momentum heading into the next phase of the season.
The championship battle is now tighter than ever and Barcelona may ultimately be remembered as the turning point of the 2026 Formula 1 season.
